How To Market You Business Using Social Networking
Trends in social networking and marketing come and go, and right now social media is hot in the marketing world. There is no doubt that your business can use social media to its advantage, but there are also some pitfalls that you definitely want to avoid.
There is a lot of misinformation out there about how to utilize social media for business. Knowing how to post a status update on Facebook does not make you a social media marketing expert. It’s important to understand that social media marketing is just one component of a comprehensive marketing plan.
Before you take the plunge, here are some tips you can use to make your social media marketing more effective.
Ask yourself, what are you trying to accomplish with social media marketing? To reach your goals, you have to define them first.. Is it to engage with customers? Is it to increase brand awareness? Is it to drive more traffic to your site?
Decide what you’d like to accomplish and create a plan before you jump in.
Don’t annoy your friends and followers with excessive self promotion. If you’ve ever used Facebook, you know how irritating it can be to be bombarded with too many self promotional status updates. Instead of focusing on your business, try connecting with your audience and providing value. Show them the benefits of your products or services. What do you have that fulfills a need or desire? This approach is much more effective than splattering a bunch of marketing jargon all over Facebook and Twitter.
The take away here is that if a post isn’t engaging or providing some kind of value to your target audience, you should probably rewrite it.
Direct people to your website. One of the main benefits of social media is increased traffic to your website. More inbound links will help with your SEO plan and lead generation. Another benefit is social media pages tend to rank higher in the Google search results.
Don’t forget to give new visitors the opportunity to sign up for your newsletter or other free promotional materials.
Listen to your friends and followers. One of the main points of social media is to engage. If you’re too busy broadcasting your marketing messages to listen to your clients, you’re missing out on great feedback and the chance to improve your business.
Don’t censor negative comments. Unless they are vulgar or offensive, don’t try to censor negative comments. People will notice and they will promptly unlike your page. A little constructive criticism never hurt anyone. In fact, you can use it as an opportunity to show how great your business is by making things right with your customer.
Social media can be an effective part of your marketing strategy, just be sure to use it carefully and as part of a more comprehensive marketing plan.
